Peter Liu and Sophie Liu

Peter and Sophie met through music and audio engineering when they were approximately twenty. Their relationship grew from overlapping professional interests, compatible quiet, and a shared preference for practical care over social performance. They later married and had a daughter, Eloise “Ellie” Ji Liu, in mid-2035.

Meeting and Courtship

Sophie was substituting for a front-of-house engineer on a small tour engagement when Peter heard the low-end balance she had built during soundcheck. He approached her afterward to ask whether she had gated his E string separately; she answered, “Yes. You’re welcome.” Their courtship developed through continued technical conversations, lingering after load-out, and time spent together without pressure to fill every silence.

Sophie’s work as an audio and mastering engineer gave her a precise understanding of Peter’s bass playing. Peter respected her technical judgment, and Sophie valued that his quietness did not require explanation or correction.

Communication and Daily Life

Peter and Sophie were both comfortable with long periods of shared silence. Sophie noticed when Peter withdrew and gave him room while remaining available through food, equipment checks, and short messages. Peter supported Sophie’s need for uninterrupted retreat and studio time with the same practical steadiness.

They spoke English and Mandarin together and sometimes shifted languages during vulnerable family conversations. Their home combined Peter’s basses and amplifiers with Sophie’s analog mastering and synthesizer equipment.

Peter called her “Soph.” Their daughter called her “Māma” and “Māmi.” Within the wider band family, Raffie called her “Auntie Softwave” because of her ambient music.

Family and the Band

Sophie became part of the chosen family surrounding CRATB while also building her own professional relationship with the band as its lead sound engineer and audio designer. She supported Peter by telephone after Ezra’s January 2035 overdose.

After Ellie’s birth, Peter and Sophie raised her around both performance and production work. Peter introduced her to bass and rhythm, while Sophie exposed her to ambient composition and sound design. By approximately age twelve, Ellie was creating soundscapes of her own.
